In the early 2010s, Cody Carnes began making music as part of Gateway Worship while serving as a worship pastor at Gateway Church in Dallas, Texas. In 2014, Carnes released the extended play, All He Says I Am.

On February 24, 2017, Capitol Christian Music Group announced that Cody Carnes had signed with the label while releasing his first single, “The Cross Has the Final Word“, in the lead-up to his debut album slated for release in 2017.
