Jentezen Franklin was born to the family of Billy Franklin and Katie Franklin Lancaster. His father was a traveling preacher in North Carolina. He passed away in 1991, but his mother is still active at Free Chapel.
Franklin was born in Wilson, North Carolina where he grew up with his other siblings, namely: Richie Franklin, Jennifer Franklin, Jill Franklin, Doyle Franklin. Unfortunately, Richie died in December 2012

Franklin and his wife Cherise married in September 1987. God blessed their marriage with five children, namely: Drake Franklin, Caressa Franklin, Caroline Franklin, Conner Franklin, Courteney Franklin.
In addition, they are grandparents to two lovely grandchildren.
Education
Jentezen studied music at the Atlantic Christian College (Now Barton College) where he took lessons on tenor saxophone under Frank Mayes. Franklin and his brother Richie played in the college jazz band.
However, he did not finish college as he left to pursue ministry under the guidance of his father, which he eventually ended up being an evangelist.
Ministry
After Roy Wellborn’s death in 1989, Jentezen was appointed as the pastor of Free Chapel. He founded the second Free Chapel in Irivine, California, in 2007. The church held its maiden service on August 5, 2007, with roughly 163 people in attendance. Since then, the Free Chapel of Orange County has grown dramatically, now serving thousands of people each week. Since 2004, Franklin’s church has hosted an annual student conference called Forward.
In 2014, he opened the Gwinneth Church in Suwanee, Georgia. Two years later, he set up another campus on Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Free Chapel hosts an annual Forward Conference, an event that featured performances by Jeremy Camp (a Christian singer-songwriter with 4 Gold-certified albums) and other renowned Christian musicians.
Pastor Franklin is the host of a television program called Kingdom Connection. They broadcast this weekly television show on major networks all over the world.
