Joel and Victoria Osteen Honor John Osteen on The 25th Anniversary of his Passing
Joel Osteen, the senior pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, and his wife, Victoria Osteen have taken to social media to honor John Osteen Joel’s father and the founding pastor of Lakewood Church, on the 25th anniversary of his passing.
In a Tuesday Instagram video, Joel Osteen said “25 years today, my dad went to be with the Lord and somebody created this likeness of him and mom,” he said pointing at a sculpture of his parents. “And my mum of course is 90 years young and still going strong. But we just honor my dad on this 25th anniversary of his passing.”
Osteen also showed a pair of black shoes that he and Victoria had bought for his father in Italy over 30 years ago. “He wore them for many years,” Osteen said.
The renowned author went on to note that his father was a man who was always full of love. “He loved the underdog,” Osteen said. “He loved lifting people up, and really that’s what Lakewood was born out of and birthed out of,” he emphasized.
Victoria also shared her memories of her father-in-law in the video. “You know your dad was a special man,” Victoria said. “He was one of a kind and we were so fortunate to be able to spend so much time with him traveling the world around the world going all over the world, and we loved ministering to ministers.”
She acknowledged having fond memories of John Osteen, recalling how she picks him up on Sundays and brings him to church.
“I just got a lot of close time with him. So I’m just so grateful to be part of this legacy and to have what he had in a little bit imparted to me,” she added.
John Osteen founded Lakewood Church in 1959. The church has since grown to become one of the largest and most influential churches in the world, with approximately 45,000 weekly attendees. John Osteen passed away in 1999 at the age of 77.
In the years since his death, Joel Osteen has been leading the church. He has continued his father’s legacy of spreading the message of hope and faith to millions of people around the world.
