Joyce Meyer Devotional October 18 2020 – The Prayer of Petition

Theme For Joyce Meyer Devotional October 18 2020 – The Prayer of Petition

This kind of prayer is by far the most often used. When we petition God, we ask for something for ourselves; when we ask for someone else, we are interceding. It’s, of course, not wrong to ask God to do things for us, but our petitions should also be well balanced with praise, thanksgiving, and interceding for others’ needs as well. Thankfully, He’s always ready and willing to help when we need Him, especially when we pray in alignment with His Word, which He’s promised to fulfill (see Jeremiah 1:12; Isaiah 55:11).

It’s important to petition God about our future—to pray and ask Him for His direction in knowing where to go, and His help to ultimately succeed at being ourselves. Our success won’t come through personal struggle or vain effort—it will only come as a result of God’s grace. You and I must add our effort to His grace, but effort without grace is useless—neither can produce anything good unless they’re working together. Grace comes as a result of asking, which is the prayer of petition.

Thank God we can be bold in petitioning Him for any type of need in our lives (see Hebrews 4:16). We’re not restricted to a certain number of requests or a certain amount of His grace in a day. We can feel at ease talking to God about anything on our minds, knowing that He’s watching out for us.

Prayer Starter: Lord, Thank You for calling me into Your presence. I come to You as my Father with my requests. I’m confident that You’re listening, and that You will grant the desires You’ve placed in my heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.
