Joyce Meyer: Love, Joy and Self-control (pt 1)

Today, we bring you a message from Pastor Joyce Meyer titled “Love, Joy, and Self-Control.”

The fruits of the spirit are all about what God’s spirit gives us, but we’re responsible for helping cultivate it and making it grow in our lives. Sometimes love tells us to be kind, but we need self-control to be kind; love tells us to be humble, but we need self-control for that. If you have the good intention of doing all the fruits of the spirit with love and self-control, it can be easy for you.

In the kingdom of God, we are not known or applauded by the gifts that God gives us, but what God looks for is fruit; he looks for character. He said you will know them by their fruits. The world admires gifts; if you can do something and the world thinks you’re great, but God admires character.Gifts are easy; they’re given. We must learn to live deeper and be what God wants us to be.

We have to know that the fruits of the spirit are our responsibility to grow. Love and self-control work together, because when we don’t feel like loving someone for being kind or patient, we need self-control in order to carry it on.

We’re the only Jesus that people are going to see, so we have to be different from the rest of the people in the world; we have to live by the fruits of the spirit in order to be different, show people love, and have self-control. Spiritual maturity requires self-control, and the fruit of the spirit is a big part of that.

We are God’s representatives; the Bible says that he makes his appeal to the world through us; people should tell that we are Christians by our behavior, and that behavior does start with love, and we need self-control to keep up with the love.
