Here is a message from Joyce Meyer, which is titled, “Raising Lazarus—Part 1.”
Pastor Joyce teaches us in this message that Jesus was Lazarus, and he loves him. When he got the news that Lazarus was sick, he did not go to help. Sometimes we wonder why God doesn’t come to help us when we think we need him to, because sometimes we don’t need to be helped when we think we do. Sometimes it’s better for us to wait because God has something greater in mind. We have to come to the point where we trust God more than when he’s making us wait longer than we think we should, and then we will know that God has a plan.
We have to believe that all things work together for the good of those who just love God and want his will. If we have to wait, then it must be God’s will; we may not want to do it, but God has a better plan in mind. God’s ways are about our ways, and so are his thoughts. Everyone of us is waiting on God for something, and if we can’t learn how to be happy while we wait, then we are going to have a miserable life. We are doomed to a miserable life because we spend more time waiting than doing anything else. Once we get what we desire, we’ll enjoy it for a little while, then start to wait for something else. Jesus loved Lazarus, so he waited. We have to understand that when things hurt and we are suffering in our lives, it is because God loves us. It doesn’t compute in our brains that when we suffer, it’s because of God’s love. Sometimes you need to love somebody enough not to rescue them. It’s like having a grown child that we rescue all the time; it’s going to just suck the life out of us. You have to love them enough to let them hurt so that they can grow.
