Mike Todd Leads Carlton Pearson’s Celebration of Life in a Shirt Pearson Gifted Him
Mike Todd Leads Carlton Pearson’s Celebration of Life in a Shirt Pearson Gifted Him: Bishop Carlton Pearson’s Episcopal celebration of life as earlier announced by his family was held on December 1 at Transformation Church with the church’s senior pastor Michael Todd also known as Mike Todd leading the service.
The prominent African-American former megachurch founder and author died at the age of 70 on November 19 following a brief battle with cancer.
Despite facing criticism following his unorthodox views on Hell, People from all walks of life gathered to pay their last tribute to him, honoring his enormous contribution to their faith.
In a touching tribute, however, Mike Todd paid his respects to his “childhood pastor” by leading his celebration of life while wearing a shirt Pearson had gifted him.
In a Saturday Instagram post, Todd shared photos from the event, including photos of him rocking the late pastor’s shirt.
“I know to you this may just be a shirt,” Todd wrote in the photo caption. “but this shirt was worn and given to me by Carlton D. Pearson,” he explained.
“It also may just seem like ordinary material, but as I stood leading his celebration of life, with people young and old from all over the world honoring his enormous contribution to their faith”
He went on to acknowledge that wearing the gifted shirt “felt more like a mantle”
Todd further explained how, in a private conversation before Pearson’s passing, the legendary preacher insisted he wear something of his during the ceremony.
“I am not a bishop and really don’t ever want to be…lol – but my childhood pastor told me I had to wear something of his when I did his funeral… so I did it”
“I’ll be processing for weeks what God has allowed me to be born into, apart of and now leading…all I can currently gather is that I’m grateful to be part of his legacy,” he added.
