Biography

She also used play soccer for the Louisiana State University Tigers. Isom was raised in Marietta, Georgia. However, she struggled with her image as a six-foot-tall athlete in high school. She eventually developed bulimia and would vomit up to ten times each day.

It is said that Isom’s father committed suicide on January 3, 2009, in Huntsville, Alabama. Tragically, on November 25, 2009, Isom was involved in a car accident that nearly killed her. The athlete had lost control of her car while driving from LSU to her Georgia home. As a result of the crash, Isom was in and out of consciousness, but a passing retired Navy paramedic helped her.

Following her rehabilitation and conclusion of her soccer career at LSU, as well as her time training with and auditioning for the LSU football team, Isom began traveling both nationally and worldwide to share her story. In 2012, she started a speaking ministry and earned national media attention for her tale of suffering and faith, as well as her remarkable athletic career. Isom confirmed her engagement to her 15-month-old boyfriend on February 11, 2014.

Career

Isom attended Lassiter High School in Georgia. Over three seasons, her record was 40 wins, 9 defeats, and 1 tie. As a senior, she was selected The Atlanta Journal-player Constitution’s of the year. Isom was named a finalist for the 2011 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award in women’s soccer. She had won the online fan voting for the award, with more than 28% of the total vote.

As a member of the Louisiana State Tigers women’s soccer team, the Sports Illustrated magazine featured Isom in the Sports Faces in the Crowd section. She appeared in the September 18, 2008 edition. Also, She scored a 90-yard goal in her second game with the LSU Tigers. Isom was making her second career start for the Tigers in a 4-1 victory over Brigham Young University.

In January 2011, Isom began training as a placekicker.  People spotted her practicing kickoffs at the LSU Tigers’ indoor training facilities in September 2011. In addition, she worked out with senior snapper Joey Crappel and senior kicker DJ Howard from April to August of 2011. Isom took part in strength and conditioning with the football team in the summer of 2011.
Despite not wearing full protection, she made a 51-yard field goal while working out with Tigers kicker Drew Alleman and punter Brad Wing.

During the 2011 LSU Tigers football season, the team named  Isom the Homecoming Queen at halftime in Tiger Stadium during the Tigers’ game against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. Isom became the first athlete to be named Homecoming Queen in LSU history.

On Tuesday, March 6, 2012 (the first day of spring tryouts for the LSU Tigers football team), head coach Les Miles stated that Isom was among those taking part in a placekicker tryout. Isom was attempting to become the second woman to play NCAA Division I football since Katie Hnida. Unfortunately, they did not choose  Isom to continue the tryouts during the spring tryouts.
She did, however, continue training for the post and applied again in August 2012. She was once again rejected from the team.

Her second book, Sex, Jesus, and the Conversations the Church Forgot, changed the tone of sex conversations in the church.
