Pope Francis solicits prayers for Migrants killed amid Mexico blaze

Pope Francis solicits prayers for the at least 38 migrants who died in Mexican migrant camp amid fire outbreak.

Following the Vatican report of Popes’ Wednesday General Audience, the pontiff has requested for prayers for the migrants who died on Monday night consequent to fire out break at a government-run migrant detention center in Ciudad Juarez, a city in northern Mexico.” Let’s pray for the migrants who have perished in a tragic blaze in Ciudad Juarez, in Mexico.” Pope Francis said while greeting Spanish-speaking pilgrims present at the weekly General Audience.

“May the Lord receive them in His Kingdom and bring consolation to their families.” He added. Beseeching those present to join him in prayer.

Mexico’s National Migration Institute (INM) disclosed that at least 38 migrants had died in Ciudad Juarez, in Mexico, following the fire which broke out on Tuesday night at Mexican migrant detention camp, near Stanton-Lerdo bridge, a border between Mexico and US. According to the Agency, the fire broke out around 10pm inside an accommodation area. The fire had broke out after some migrants picked from the street of the border city were retained.

The Mexico’s president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said the blaze was caused by the migrants. Stating further that the angry migrants had set up the fire while demonstrating against their deportation.

“This had to do with a protest that they started after, we assume, they found out that they were going to be deported, and as a protest, they put mattresses from the shelter at the door of the shelter, and they set fire to them, and they did not imagine that this was going to cause this terrible accident.” He said.

It is very thoughtful of Pope to Pray for these victims amid his challenged health condition
