Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa Biography

On December 25, 1977, Emmanuel Shingirai Makandiwa was born. Emmanuel was raised in a Christian environment, and his parents founded the first church in Muzarabani. and after moving to Muzarabani [in Mashonaland Central Province], his family focused on cotton, grain, and other agricultural cultivation. His father taught him how to farm as the eldest in a family of five; from planting and crop management to maintaining their farming tractor, he grew up to become his father’s right-hand man on their farm.

Emmanuel’s were financial partners with a Harare-based evangelical organization led by the late Evangelist P.D. Chiweshe. They actively sponsored several crusades in Muzarabani. This repeated exposure to Christianity heightened Emmanuel’s interest. He began preaching at an early age, and his pastor at the time would allow him to minister even during the big Sunday services.

After graduating from high school, Emmanuel went to work full-time on his father’s farm.  He started having visions and hearing God speak to him. These visions were God telling him about upcoming events and how He planned to use him.  His father claimed that the supernatural manifestations did not surprise him. This was because an angel already told him that Emmanuel would be a prominent pastor.

They also claimed God once caught Emmanuel in a supernatural vision while sleeping under a shade at their farm one afternoon. The shade he was sleeping under caught fire, but by some miracle, the wooden shade was not burnt. Witnesses say they rushed to the scene with buckets of water to put out the fire, only to see Emmanuel sleeping in the shade without a scratch or burn.

Emmanuel claimed that during this time, the Lord revealed to him his ministry and what was about to happen through him. The supernatural manifestations increased after that day, and he then heeded the call of God as a full-time minister.

Education

Prophet Emmanuel had three failed attempts at enrolling in Bible school in Harare. Eventually,  Living Waters Theological Seminary him. This is where he received a diploma in theology in 2002.

They have five children together.

Ministry

After his graduation, the pastoral board of his church, Apostolic Faith Mission [AFM] then deployed Emmanuel to Matebele land. Here, he served as an assistant pastor. Later, the church gave him an assembly to pastor in Shangani.

In 2004, they moved him to How Mine Assembly, and then to Chitungwiza. His powerful preaching drew people from all across Chitungwiza and Harare to the Assembly.

Makandiwa launched a non-denominational ministry called the United Family Interdenominational Ministries while he was in Chitungwiza. He began by conducting lunch-hour gatherings in the Harare CBD, and eventually moved on to hosting mid-week sessions. Their inaugural meeting, held at the Anglican Cathedral in Harare’s CBD, drew a large crowd and resulted in a large overflow.

Due to huge numbers, they moved the meetings to State Lottery Hall, which is next to the Harare Town House. However, the numbers continued to swell. People from his church and other churches attended his meetings, and these meetings were characterised by overflows. It compelled them to look for another bigger auditorium and so they moved to Harare City Sports Centre.
