Shadow Mountain Community Church is located in El Cajon, California, San Diego United states. The Church is headed by its lead pastor, Dr. David Jeremiah.
The Church is an evangelical Christian megachurch and they celebrated their centennial in 2009.
The church held her first meeting in 1909 but was officially founded in North Park, San Diego in 1912 as Scott Memorial Baptist Church, in memory of U.S. Army chaplain Winfield Scott.
Scott Memorial East was built in El Cajon on Greenfield Drive as SMBC expanded. Later, the name was changed to Shadow Mountain Community Church. Scott Memorial Community Church and Grace Community Church were the two subsequent names for the original Scott Memorial Baptist Church in North Park.
The San Diego’s North Park neighborhood, the former Grace Community Church was purchased by Shadow Mountain Church in 2014, and it was transformed into an adjunct campus called North Park Campus.
The church has six auxiliary campuses as of April 2017: two in San Diego, one each in El Cajon and Encinitas, one each in Chula Vista and Alpine.
Shadow Mountain Community Church Beliefs
A. The Authority of the Bible
The 66 books that make up the Old and New Testaments are without contradiction in the original writings and are the verbally inspired Word of God.
There is only one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each of these three is to be revered and worshiped as God because they are coequal in terms of their fundamental nature, perfection, and qualities.
C. The Person of Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the only one who can act as a mediator between God and mankind. He is also God the Son, the promised Messiah, who was conceived in the body by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin.
Through His death on the cross, Jesus Christ provided redemption and forgiveness for everyone who believes, atoned for all sin, and fully appeased God’s just wrath toward sin.
E. The Ministry of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the third member of the Triune Godhead who convicts people of their sin, brings about spiritual birth, sanctifies, indwells, equips, and enlightens the believer so that he can walk in obedience to God and His Word.
All of mankind is sinful in nature and practice, unable to save themselves, and faces eternal separation from God because man was created in God’s image and is not the result of evolution. He fell into sin through personal disobedience to the revealed will of God.
G. The Salvation of Man
The free gift of God’s grace is eternal salvation from sin, death, and hell, and it depends only on each individual’s personal faith and belief in Jesus Christ.
The righteous enter Christ’s presence at death and remain there in joyful fellowship until their physical resurrection to life. The unsaved enter Hades at death and are immediately punished there until their physical resurrection, which results in damnation.
The Holy Spirit instantly brings all who have trusted in Christ together into one spiritual body, the church, of which Christ is the Head. Additionally, local churches are encouraged to unite the members of this single spiritual body.
The necessary power and scriptural directives for enforcing the order, discipline, and worship that Christ, the sovereign head, had established have been granted to these local independent churches. Pastors and deacons are the biblically designated officers who serve under Christ and over the church.
J. The Ordinances of the Church
Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are two ordinances that have been committed to the local church. Christian baptism is the act of submerging a believer in water in the triune God’s name. Being a command of Christ, this ordinance is acknowledged as a requirement for participation in the local church. The Lord’s Supper was also established by Christ to remember His atoning death. Until the Lord Jesus Christ returns, these two ordinances must be observed.
K. Future Events
The Lord’s personal, bodily return to take His waiting church from the earth and to reward them according to their works is one of the great events that will soon take place in the fulfillment of prophecy concerning the church.
Other future events that are believed to come are:
- The seven-year tribulation period, during which God’s judgment will be poured out on the unbelievers’ world, is another upcoming event.
- The unsaved dead will be raised at the end of the thousand-year reign and sent to hell while the saved will be received into God’s eternal state of glory.
