T.D. Jakes Foundation Awards Grant to Greenwood Cultural Center
In collaboration with Wells Fargo, Â T.D. Jakes Foundation, led by The Potters House founder, Bishop T.D. Jakes has donated a $25000 impact grant to Greenwood Cultural Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The grant serves to boost Greenwood Cultural Center’s mission to educate future generations about Black history and culture.Â
“This support will empower the center to expand its vital programs, playing a crucial role in educating future generations about the resilient individuals, businesses, and cultural legacy of the Greenwood community and Black communities across the country,” the T.D. Jakes Foundation announced on Instagram.
The Greenwood Cultural Center stands as a powerful symbol of perseverance, keeping the memory of the Greenwood community, also known as Black Wall Street, alive. The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, a horrific event that saw the destruction of this thriving Black neighborhood by a white mob, is a stark reminder of the racial injustices faced by African Americans in the United States.
The Greenwood Cultural Center serves as a tribute to the enduring impact of the massacre and the vibrant spirit of Black Wall Street. Through engaging hands-on educational programs, on-site galleries, and the preservation of important historical documents, the center offers a space for learning and reflection.
