Terri Savelle Foy: Your 2023 Goal Setting Checklist

Today, we bring you a message from Pastor Terri Savelle Foy titled “Your 2023 Goal Setting Checklist.”

All successful people have two things in common: (1) they are committed to continual learning, and (2) they are committed to continual goal setting.

The greatest predictor that you will be successful is “Be intentional about your personal growth.” By setting your goal in the right way for the new year, you will be successful. A lot of people have good intentions, but they’re not intentional about their personal growth.

2023 Goal-Setting Checklist

1: Commit to Reading. 88% of the wealthiest people in the world read 30 minutes or more every day. You can’t grow anymore if you don’t read anymore.

2: Commit to Listening. 63% of the wealthiest people in the world listen to audiobooks during their commute to work, but only 5% of poor people do, so set a new goal to invest in some new audiobooks and utilize your time to grow yourself.

3: Commit to investing in your growth: We find it easy to spend more on our clothing, but investing in a program is good because we’re talking about our future. It is good to have an amazing pair of shoes, but instead of just investing in a pair of shoes or an outfit that’s going to be outdated, the book will live on forever and will teach you how to get the amazing shoes. You must invest in your personal growth, be very selective about who you allow to speak into your life, get some mentors who are 7 to 10 steps ahead of you, and make you and your growth a priority for the new year.

6 Common Mistakes in Goal Setting

(1) You set too many goals: The top way people lose their focus is by having too many goals to focus on, staying between 7 and 10 goals.

(2) You don’t write your goals down: The very act of writing them down gives you a 42% greater probability of achieving the goal; you have to write them down in order to be more focused.

(3) You don’t make your goal specific: if you want more money, but don’t make it concrete, it’s unlikely to happen; for example, if you want to increase your salary, how much? How much weight do you want to lose? You want to lose more books; how many? be very specific.

(4) You don’t assign a deadline: Deadlines are motivating; they create a sense of urgency. Some people are afraid to set a deadline because they’re concerned they won’t make it. That’s okay, you can move the deadline. If you have a desire to write a book, you need to assign a deadline for Chapter 1.

(5) You don’t push yourself outside of your comfort zone: You need to be uncomfortable; if all of your goals are in your comfort zone, it doesn’t motivate you, it doesn’t require you to think creatively, pray, or use your faith; set a goal in the discomfort zone.

(6) You don’t make your goals visible: we don’t put our goals where we see them as often as we can; keep your goal out of reach but not out of sight.
