It means to go through things that lift you to a higher level. from the book of Daniel 3;1-15 we see the story of Shadrach Meshach and Abednego encountering God which led to their promotion. however, their promotion did not come without a test or trial.
In the world today, as Christians we are caught in a cultural tension that seeks to take away our Christainiaity. The story of the three Hebrew boys is similar to the things we face in the world today. sometimes God allows us to be in the fire so that we can see what he is going to do. Sometimes, he doesn’t get you out of the fire, instead, he joins you. 1 peter 5:10
