Brian Houston To Launch a Church and Online Ministry in 2024

Brian Houston To Launch a Church and Online Ministry in 2024: The founder and former global senior pastor of Hillsong Church Brian Houston has announced plans to launch a new church and online ministry in 2024.

Houston’s announcement comes nearly two years after his formal resignation from the church. His resignation was incited by investigations into claims of him maltreating two women  that revealed he “breached the Hillsong Pastor’s Code of Conduct.”

“Bobbie and I are starting a weekly online ministry and church in 2024. I’m excited about building this new community,” Houston wrote a recent post on X formerly Twitter. However, details about the new church and ministry were not disclosed.

Brian Houston established Hillsong more than twenty years ago but no longer holds any formal position inside the church. The majority of his family members have also cut ties with the network.

In September, his daughter Laura Toganivalu and her husband Peter who resigned earlier this year as global pastors of Hillsong’s youth ministry announced the launch of a new church in Sydney Australia.

In recent years, Houston has been faced with several controversies. Australian police filed charges against him in 2021 for not reporting the sexual abuse committed by his father Frank Houston in the 1970s. However, after a trial in August, the Sidney Magistrate Gareth Christofi acquitted him of concealing his father’s sexual crime. Christofi ruled that Houston had a valid reason for not reporting his father’s abuse of Brett Sengstock to the police.

Earlier this year, Houston was charged with drink-driving. He pled guilty in April and was sentenced to 3 years of DUI probation and a fine of $140. He was also required by the court to complete a three-month first-offender alcohol program by May 11. Additionally, he was to participate in self-help meetings for a period of one year until April 11, 2024.

Despite the past controversies, Houston’s commitment to faith and ministry remains unwavering. In September Houston announced his plans to write a new book sharing his personal “story.”  He emphasized that the book will “lift the lid and tell the untold story” and “tell the amazing story of God’s grace and blessing”.
