Charles Stanley influential Baptist pastor dies at 90

Charles Stanley, the founder of In Touch Ministries and senior pastor at First Baptist Church Atlanta dies at 90 on Tuesday morning. This was disclosed in an Instagram statement on Tuesday by In Touch Ministry.

“This morning at the age of 90, God called our beloved pastor, Dr. Charles Frazier Stanley, home to heaven. Dr. Stanley lived a faithful life of obedience, dedicated to teaching others how to have an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Now he is receiving the joy of his soul, seeing his Savior face-to-face” It stated.

Prayers were further requested for Stanley’s Family. In addition, the statement made known his memorial arrangement details will be passed on at In Touch and Stanley’s websites.

“Please join us in praying for the entire Stanley family. Updates regarding memorial arrangements will be posted here, at intouch.org, and at charlesstanley.com” It wrote.

Charles Stanley was born on September 25, 1932, in Dry Fork, Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He became devoted to Christian ministry as a teenager.

He earned several degrees including a bachelor of art at the University of Richmond, a Master of Divinity at  Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, a Master of Theology, and a Doctor of Theology at Luther Rice Seminary.

Stanley joined First Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia as a staff in 1969. He became a senior pastor of the church in 1971, a position he retained till he retired in 2020.

Stanley began In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley, then Known as The Chapel Hour in 1972. He also is the author of several Christian books, including, A Man’s Touch, Handle With Prayer, Waiting on God: Strength for Today and Hope for Tomorrow, and lots more.

Stanley is survived by two children, his daughter Becky and son Andy. Andy however is the founder and senior pastor at Northpoint Ministries.
