Pastor teaches us in this message about the chastening of the Lord, what it means, and why we must understand it in our lives. People have often wondered if God is going to punish me or if he is a punisher. We have to understand what the chastening of the Lord means so that we won’t fight certain things that show up in our lives that are designed for our maturity and that are designed to cause us to grow. It is designed to burn out the impurity of self-dependence so that we can learn how to be completely dependent on God in our lives. Jesus left us the peace that says you’re going to have peace when other people don’t have peace, and you’ll have your peace even in the middle of trouble, no matter what happens.
In Romans 8:28, he says, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” God is going to cause everything to work together for good for those who love God and are called according to his purpose, so whatever we’re going through right now that we may not understand why we’re going through right now, God is going to use it and he’s going to cause it to work together. Somehow, you’re going to see the good in the stuff that you went through. You’re going to see the good in the afflictions that showed up.
We have to know God is a potter; he knows how to take the good clay and the bad clay. He’ll take the bad clay and mix it up with the good clay, and you ain’t going to be able to find the bad any more, so we know God causes everything to work together. God doesn’t cause all of that negative stuff to happen, but he can work it in; he calls it to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose.
