So He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name.”
Luke 11:2

One of the tiniest books in the world recently sold at a Brussels auction for more than four thousand euros. Published in 1952 by the Gutenberg Museum in Germany, it was part of a fundraising drive to rebuild the damaged museum after World War II. You’ll need a strong magnifying glass to read the print. What you’ll see through your magnifying glass is the Lord’s Prayer: “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name” (Luke 11:2, KJV).[1]

How ironic! The smallest prayer ever printed is the biggest one ever prayed. This prayer has been prayed by more people, in more languages, at more times, and during more crises than any other prayer in history. There’s nothing tiny about it!

Take the word “hallowed.” No matter how small the type, its meaning is infinite. It refers to God’s holiness, His sanctity, His sovereign righteousness. By using that word we’re acknowledging God’s great holiness and, by implication, relinquishing control of our lives to His perfect will.

And that’s enormous! So take time today to thank God for His holiness and righteousness.

If…we are to hallow the name of God, we must first of all enthrone God within our hearts.
