Harvest Christian Fellowship founder Greg Laurie has requested relief support for his Hawaii campus congregants who were affected by the Tuesday devastating fire outbreak.
The multi-campus church senior pastor announced in a Thursday Instagram post that his church Harvest kumulani in Maui, Hawaii has been affected by the August 8 wildfire outbreak on West Maui. He also announced the launch of a ” Maui Relief Fund” which seeks to provide assistance to the outbreak victims.
“The majority of our congregation on Maui works and lives in and around Lahaina, meaning that many at Harvest Kumulani lost their homes, their jobs, or both in one night”, Laurie wrote in an Instagram post.
“Galatians 6:10 says, “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” We have set up the Harvest Maui Relief Fund to provide tangible support for our church’s local relief efforts.”
Laurie further expressed gratitude for “prayers” and “outpouring of concern and support,” noting that Harvest Church “will be there to bring hope and the gospel to the hurting people of the island of Maui at this critical time.”
The launch of Maui Relief Fund came a day after Laurie requested prayers for the affected campus.
“Please pray for our community! We have seen some 2000 people make commitments to follow Christ here in the last 7 years. But a horrible wildfire has engulfed Lahaina,” he wrote in a Wednesday Instagram post.
“Pray for our Church to be protected, pray for God’s provision for those who have lost their homes. Pray that we can be a bright light to those who are hurting,” he added.
A number of wildfires erupted in the US state of Hawaii on Tuesday, mostly hitting the island of Maui. The wind-driven flames forced evacuation, wreaked havoc, and claimed at least 55 lives.
