We bring to you today’s message from Pastor Jentezen Franklin. This powerful message is one that is titled, “The Champion”. The text for the message is from 1 Samuel 17:4.
Pastor Jentezen teaches us in this message about how David killed the champion Philistines. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled. The men of Israel and Judah arose and shouted and pursued the Philistines. Saul was having a lot of personal problems; he was the first king of Israel; he was in a backslidden condition; he went to a psychic; he went to a witch; he had lost the anointing; he’d lost the voice of God in his life. He’s turning to anything and everything, and as sin always does, it takes you deeper and deeper.
Depression was overwhelming for Saul; he was almost insane with depression, and while in that vulnerable moment the leadership of Israel was distracted and preoccupied with his own battles, the enemy slipped into the promised land. The Philistines came to the valley and set up a war camp, and there was a giant named Goliath who began to walk out and taunt the armies of Israel. They are terrified at the giant who’s stepping out every morning and every night and saying, Send me a “champion.” Goliath is a picture of the serpent that defeated Adam and Eve in the garden. That’s why the prophecy in the garden was the seed of the woman will crush the head of the serpent. The Bible says that David is the descendant of Jesus. The Book of Revelation says that David is the root and offspring of David. What does that mean? He was the root, which means he existed before David.
David goes out and defeats Goliath with a head wound. Jesus would go to the cross, to a place called Golgotha, which means the place of the skull. David was the champion for Israel, and Jesus is the champion who gave us salvation.
