Joyce Meyer: Defeating Giants – Part 1

Here is a message from Joyce Meyer, which is titled “Defeating Giants, Part 1.” The text for the message is from 1 Samuel 17:42–48.

Pastor Joyce teaches us that we can actually have more power and more authority in our lives than the enemy does. No matter how powerful the giants in your life are, he who is within you is greater than he who is without you. Many of us have a giant chasing us around right now; there are all kinds of giants, from little giants to medium-sized giants to big giants. We might feel that we cannot defeat the giants in our lives, and we are letting you know they have no intention of leaving.

Mentally, we may believe we can handle something if it is only for a week or two. The lie the devil uses to trap us is that the problem will go away, but problems always come to an end. We have to trust in God in order for us to defeat the giants within ourselves. Encourage yourself to declare that your problems are going to come to an end. When David defeated the giant Goliath, the giant was talking to David, insulting him, but David didn’t just stand there and take it. Sometimes we need to talk back to the devil. We can’t defeat Goliath with our mouths shut; we have to open our mouths and declare the name of the Lord against the giants in our lives.

A lot of times we think our problems are doomed, but if we don’t face them, the giant will keep getting bigger. We have to build our faith up and go after the giant in the name of Jesus, like David did. The word of God does not get old, so we have to depend on God’s word. Our dependence on God and our faith in him are what we can use to defeat the giants in our lives. There will always be a giant that will try to steal our joy, but we should not give in to the fear.
