Here is a message from Joyce Meyer, which is titled, “It’s Time for an Upgrade, Part 2.”
Pastor Joyce teaches us in this message that our history should not be our destiny. Many of us may not have had a good start in life, but it’s really how you finish that people remember. No matter how you got started, you can have a phenomenal ending. People with a wounded soul want to control everything, but we have to know that we can’t control everything. People who have been wounded do not become controllers because they are cruel or do not understand what they are doing. They became controllers out of fear of being hurt, and they thought that if they were the ones in control, they wouldn’t get hurt.
People who are controllers are not necessarily wicked; they may just be afraid that if they don’t stay in control, somebody’s going to take advantage of them. We can’t trust people because they can hurt us, but we can trust God in everything and put ourselves in His hands. We have to turn ourselves over to God and know that He is our vindicator and the one who has to fix what’s wrong with us in our lives. We should not be responsible for what everybody else does anymore and do what God asks of us. Wounded people learn to live a life of deception, never expressing their true feelings or thoughts on anything. They simply do what they think everybody wants them to do so that they can stay happy. After pleasing people for a while, you begin to resent all these people who are controlling you when you are the one allowing them.
It’s time for some of you to start standing up for yourself, and you’ve never done it your whole life, and you are bitter because of it. You get what you put up with, and sooner or later you will know that you deserve respect. People who are wounded usually have bad attitudes; they’re usually negative and afraid to think something good will happen to them. You may not be able to change all the circumstances in your life, but your attitude belongs to you.
