Joyce Meyer: What is Love? – Part 1

Enjoying Everyday Life shares this message by Joyce Meyer titled “What is Love?” The text for the message is from Romans 5:5. “And hope does not put us to shame because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.”

Pastor Joyce teaches us in this message about love, and because God loves us, we can choose to love other people too. We have to know that God’s love never fails, and it can be hard to love some people who are difficult to love. We have love in us; it’s a fruit of the spirit that comes into us when we’re born again, but it comes as a seed, and we have to work it out for it to develop. Love is not going to grow if you don’t exercise it, and kindness won’t grow if we don’t practice it. The more we do what God asks us to do, the more “knowledge puffeth up. We can have our Bible underlined, but that does not mean that we know anything; we have to put what we know into practice. The only time we can know the power of the fruits of the spirit is when we are doing them—the power of forgiveness, love, and humility—and we can’t do it by ourselves but through the Holy Spirit. We’re partners with God, and God has made seven thousand promises to us in the Bible, but there is something for us to do that is our faith.

For us to practice love and to see the promises of God in our lives, we have to have faith. We have to love one another because that is the new commandment that Jesus gave to us. It can be hard to love someone who has wronged you, but we have to obey God’s commandment. We can’t do it on our own, but with the help of the Holy Spirit, we have to surrender to him to take control of our lives.
