The difference between a Cowboy and the Shepherd is that the Shepherd know the Sheep unlike the Cowboy. The treat the animals they are in charge of differently.
Christ introduced himself as a Shepherd and not a cowboy to show how much he cares for us. He is the shepherd who protects and provides for the sheep. We are God’s people and we are the sheep that he tends to. He cares for us and when the Shepherd is attacked, the sheep scatters.
