Shepherd Bushiri Foundation Partners with Nollywood Star Nkem Owo to Boost Malawian Film Industry
The Shepherd Bushiri Foundation (SBF) has announced a groundbreaking agreement with veteran Nigerian actor Nkem Owo to boost the Malawian Film Industry.
The agreement signed by SBF president Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and Mr Owo on Sunday in Lilongwe, marks a historic moment for the Malawian film industry.
According to a press release shared on Bushiri’s Instagram page on Tuesday, this “movie acting” agreement fosters collaboration between Malawian and Nigerian film professionals. It also aims to elevate the Malawian film industry by providing Malawian actors with greater international exposure.
“The agreement, which is described as a historic arrangement on film production, is the first of its kind in the audio-visual sector to be signed between SBF and the Nigerian actor,” the release read. It “is expected to see Malawian film actors getting the exposure they lack to penetrate to a global stage.”
Bushiri has specifically expressed his strong belief in the potential of the Malawian film industry. “I have always believed in the immense potential of our local movie industry,” Bushiri is quoted saying. “We have talented actors and actresses who simply lack the exposure they deserve. This partnership is a step towards bridging that gap and propelling Malawian talent to greater heights.”
The agreement paves the way for the development of the first co-produced film, scheduled to begin production in April 2024. Aspiring Malawian actors and actresses are subsequently encouraged to stay informed about the upcoming application process.
This initiative equally aligns with Prophet Bushiri’s ongoing commitment, through SBF and Major One Records, to support and promote Malawian artists within the entertainment sector.
The hope is that this partnership will not only benefit Malawian filmmakers but also pave the way for future collaborations and opportunities within the African film industry.
