Most of us Christians want to pick the outcome we want in our lives, and we still want to be the ones to control it, but we have to allow God to take the control. We want to choose which things God will bring into our lives to teach us lessons, and we want to choose the outcome of those lessons as well. We live in a generation where everybody has an advice column, but very few people have true authority, so we need to be careful who we allow to be our mentor. We have to allow Jesus Christ to be our mentor, and we have to learn from the apostle of Jesus Christ in the Bible.
We need more mentors like Paul, more people who will show us not only the great power but also the problems they have to overcome to operate in the power that God has given them. We need mentors who show a good example of overcoming struggles and not avoiding them.
We live in an era where everyone wants to share their opinion, even when it’s not needed. Everyone wants to be a mentor and not be mentored. The best mentor we can get in this era is Jesus Christ, and the best book we could read is the Word of God. The unsolicited opinions of people on things concerning you, like how you should raise your kids, how to relate to your husband, and what age you should get married, are all nice, but the only advice you need is from God.
