The Potters House Church founder Bishop TD Jakes has installed his daughter Sarah Jakes Robert and her husband Touré Robert as the first-ever assistant pastors of the church on the occasion of the church’s 27th anniversary.
During Potters House’s 27th anniversary service on Sunday, Sarah and Toure Robert among other ministers were appointed into the church’s new leadership roles. While other ministers were dressed in black, the Roberts were in white.
Jakes noted however that the Roberts had been asked to dress differently to mark their historic consecration into the role of assistant pastors.
“We have asked you to dress differently because, in the 27 years of this church, we have never had the office we are consecrating you for,” TD Jakes Said. “This will be the first time in the history of this church that we’ll set you apart as assistant pastors.”
Addressing the about-to-be-ordained individuals standing before him, Jakes said
“Before I give you the charge, I want to preface it by saying you might be surprised to be here. But God is not. He said before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee. I ordained you. Before any man can ordain, I ordained you. I sanctified you, I set you apart. I made sure you never fit right nowhere else”
He afterward asked that they kneel and say a secret prayer prior to their consecration.
TD Jakes made it clear however that although new leaders were appointed, he and his wife Serita Jakes are not stepping down from ministry yet.
“We are still here,” he said. “Our strength is not abated. And our eyes are not blurred, but God has allowed us the privilege of more help for more reach.”
