Joyce Meyer: Prayer

Here is a message from Joyce Meyer, which is titled “Prayer.”

Pastor Joyce teaches us in this message about prayer that prayer is so amazingly powerful and we have to turn it into a “have to” instead of a “want to.” When we pray, we are not doing it for God; we are doing it for ourselves. Even when we study the Bible, we are not doing it for God; we need to learn the wisdom. Anytime Satan can get us with a legalistic mindset, which means “feeling that you have to do something as a law otherwise God’s going to be upset with you,” Automatically, our nature rebels against that, and then we end up not wanting to do it or feeling pressured when we do it. The first thing we have to realize if we want to have a better prayer life is that prayer is a greater privilege. Jesus told his disciples, “After I’m gone, you’ll no longer have to ask me anything, but you can go straight to the Father in my name.”

When Jesus gave us his name, it represented all that he was, so it’s great that when we go to pray, we don’t go in our name. If we go by our names, we won’t get very much because none of us really desires anything. No matter how many good works we do, we can never reach God’s standard of holiness and righteousness without Jesus Christ.

What Jesus has done for us is amazing, and we have to think about it on a regular basis. We have to know that prayer is not an obligation; it’s our greatest privilege. Keeping prayer simple is one of the ways to really enjoy it. The validity of prayer is not based on how many words you say. Jesus told the people: Don’t just keep repeating the phrases over and over just to keep saying something. When we pray and the it gets answered we should write it on our journal, if we watch more for what God does in our life that will make our relationship with him so much more exciting.
