Pastor Andy Stanley Under Fire for Gay Remarks
The senior pastor of North Point Community Church, Pastor Andy Stanley, has come under heavy fire from the Christian community over his gay remarks. In a video clip of the sermon shared on Twitter, Stanley tells listeners that the LGBTQ+ community in the church is an important and faithful part of the church.
“A gay person who still wants to attend church after the way they’ve been treated, I’m telling you, they have more faith than I do,” Stanley said. “They have more faith than a lot of you.”
According to the pastor, “A gay person who knows, ‘You know what? I might not be accepted, but I’m going to try it anyway,’ and as a straight person, have you ever, where do you go that you’re not sure you’re going to be accepted over and over and over?”
The North Point Community Church pastor, had also gone ahead to encourage Christians to continue to welcome LGBTQ Christians into churches, citing that they still love God, we have some things to learn from them.
Unfortunately, this did not go down well with the Christian community, as heavy criticism has dogged the statements.

Theology aside, he does have a good point (whether he’s intending to make it or not). Gay people are passionate & persistent. Again, I disagree with theology of affirming sin, but the message that Jesus followers should be the most passionate movement is desperately needed.
