Pope Francis to be discharged from hospital on Saturday

Pope Francis is to be discharged from the hospital on Saturday and is expected to participate in Palm Sunday Mass at St. Peter’s Square.

The Holy Father who has been hospitalized with a respiratory infection since Wednesday was scheduled to be discharged on Saturday. This was revealed in a statement on Friday by The director of Holy See Press Matteo Bruni. He as well disclosed that he would be present at St. Peter’s Square for Palm Sunday Mass.

“As he is scheduled to leave the hospital tomorrow. Pope Francis is expected to be present in St. Peter’s Square for the Eucharistic celebration of Palm Sunday.” Mateo  Bruni stated.

Updating the press on the Pope’s condition, Bruni disclosed in an earlier statement on Friday morning that the Pontiff “passed well, with a normal clinical course. In the evening Pope Francis had dinner. Eating pizza, together with those who are assisting him during these days of his hospital stay. With the Holy Father were the doctors, nurses, assistants, and staff of the Gendarmerie.”

The statement also had it that after having breakfast in the morning, Francis read some newspapers and resumed his work. “His Holiness is expected to return to the Santa Marta home tomorrow, upon the outcome of the results of the last examinations this morning.” The statement concluded,

Mateo Bruni the Vatican spokes man also disclosed in a statement on Thursday evening that doctors at the Gemelli Hospital where the Holy Father is treated, said Pope Francis was diagnosed with infectious bronchitis. It stated further that the pope would be needing infused antibiotic administration to treat the infectious disease.

Pope Francis was taken to hospital on Wednesday after his weekly General Audience. The Vatican reported he went for some check-ups for respiratory issues he earlier complained of.
