Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, a spokesman for the police, claimed that the robbers made away with 14 smartphones, an unspecified amount of cash, bank cards, and pins belonging to the congregants and the church.

The robbers also took two sets of car keys before driving off in one of the victim’s white Volkswagen Polo Vivo car. The vehicle however was reportedly found abandoned near Mzinti, some 7 kilometers away from the church.

“While still waiting for other members, three robbers armed with handguns and their faces covered stormed the church.

They robbed members of an undisclosed amount of cash, 14 cell phones, personal bank cards, the church’s bank card, and further demanded their PINs,” Mohlala stated.

In an effort to apprehend the perpetrators, provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Semakaleng Dapney Manamela has put up a team to look into the case. The General said Mpumalanga Police will never allow criminals to walk free and promised to get those behind the robbery behind bars soon.

“ECG Ministries is a modern congregation of Christ–centered believers celebrating God through the Prophetic, Healing, and Deliverance Ministries. It is a home to millions across the globe who seek to hear God speaking today,” states the church’s website.
