Here is a fresh message from Pastor Tony Evans which is titled “Entering God’s Rest”. In this message, Pastor Tony points out that we’ve asked question “does life have to be this hard? One day everything is looking sunny the next day it’s cloudy day and then we find out it becomes a week and even months and year. Well God is offering us something he’s offering us “rest”.
To understand the context of this need for rest, we have to understand what’s happening in the book of Hebrews, the book of Hebrew is full of Christians who are tired, the author of the whole book is telling them don’t quit, don’t give up, keep going.
In this journey of life God says there is a sabbath rest that belongs to the people of God or there is a rest stop that people who don’t know God don’t have. The rest is designed for you to stop working.
God want us to rest on seventh cause he wants us to be reminded that he is our provider , he’s our source and he will take care of us on the seventh day because we remembered him and remembered him as our source.
In the new testament all nine of the ten commandments are repeated, the tenth one is not, one of the ten is “keep the sabbath is not repeated in the new testament, the reason why God didn’t repeat that commandment because he shifted a day.
The resurrection of Jesus instituted a new day, in the old testament you look back at what God did in six days but in the new testament you look forward to what God’s going to do.
Deuteronomy chapter 12vs8-10 says “that God rest involves his inheritance” God establishes rest to get us to particular goal and particular goal of rest is to get get us to our inheritance , every believer has two inheritances (1) the destiny God has for us in time (2) the rewards he has prepared for us in eternity.
We don’t get our inheritance that is that we will not realize our destiny in time nor will you get your rewards in eternity unless you finish your work, remember God finished his work that’s when he rested.
