Here is a message from Joyce Meyer, which is titled, “Believe the Word—Part 1.” The text of the message is from Mark 4:24. “And He said to them, be careful what you are hearing. “The measure of thought and study you give to the truth you hear will be the measure of virtue and knowledge that comes back to you, and more besides will be given to you who hear.”
Pastor Joyce teaches us that believing God is believing his words, and when you study the words, you are studying the nature and character of God. We will receive it if we study God’s word, see God’s promises in the Bible, and continue to believe in them. There is a difference between reading and studying the Bible. In studying the Bible, you go deeper and have to invest more time in learning the words. Make sure that what you are hearing is coming from an accurate Bible teacher, and the thought you give to what you hear is the measure of knowledge you get. Pastor Joyce said that we don’t need more information; we need revelation, which needs to be incorporated into our lives. We don’t need to hear the word alone; we need to practice it as well. Just knowing the word won’t add the joy to our lives that God wants us to have. Doing what we hear from the word of God adds joy to our lives, and there’s power in the word to help you do it because the Holy Spirit works through the words.
The Holy Spirit will give you the grace to do what you hear from the Word of God, but sometimes you have to study it for a period of time. Investing time in the word of God is not wasting time; we all have the same amount of time, but it’s up to us what we do with it. Every single one of us can set aside time to study the word of God; by spending time in the word, you’re spending time with God. Studying and spending time with God is not an obligation or something you owe God; you are doing it for yourself. Studying God’s word teaches you how to live right and how to tell what is right and wrong.
