Today, we bring you a message from Pastor Joyce Meyer titled, “What Does God Want From Me?” There are a lot of Christians who have asked God, “What do you want from me?” We want to please God, and yet sometimes it just feels like we aren’t sure how to do that. Most new Christians seem to face this challenge of wanting to know what God wants from them.
God wants us to know what he’s done for us, not that we are always trying to do something for him. If God leads us to do something, we need to obey him, but the new covenant relationship with God is about relationship through Christ, and it’s about believing. Without faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6); faith is believing and trusting God. God doesn’t want us to do things that we’re doing with a guilty conscience; he doesn’t want us doing things with wrong motives; he wants us to give, but he doesn’t want us to give to be seen.
He doesn’t want us to make an announcement about everything we do. “Do things in secret, and God will reward you in the open” (Matthew 6:2), so it’s important that we don’t do things for people to think we’re good or even so we can think we’re good. We need to do good works unto the Lord, leaning on and relying on him to do things in faith. You’re doing what you believe God wants you to do, and you’re relying on him to do it. We are so caught up with trying to do something to earn something from him.
God said in the Bible, “If you love me, you will obey my commandments” (John 14:15). We have to do the good things out of love, not obligation. God loves us first; we could never love if he didn’t first love us, so God loves us and we need to receive it, and in doing so, we are loving ourselves.You will marvel at and appreciate what God has made.
